Not every carpet has a Facebook profile, Twitter account, and more than 100,000 Instagram foot-selfies — not to mention carpet-inspired socks, beer, and tote bags. Before the popularity of #PDXCarpet grew on social media, Hennebery Eddy was already working with the Port of Portland to replace the beloved — but nearly 30-year-old — teal carpet at Portland International Airport. We worked closely with the Port to refine the design, define the manufacturing requirements, and test the durability of carpet materials. Replacement of the 65,000 yards of carpet (enough to fill 10 football fields) affects all public spaces in the airport, which required careful planning to minimize impacts to passengers.
